KATHLEEN MARGARET (STEWART) URBAN
Kathleen Margaret (Stewart) Urban, 71, of Saint Augustine, Florida passed away on Tuesday, November 14th at her home with her family after a brief battle with cancer.
Born on July 16th, 1946 to the late Betty Jane Young and Lawrence Russell Stewart in Hamilton, Ohio, Kathy married Edward J. Urban in 1964, and they spent their life together in Grove City, Ohio; Saint Augustine, FL; and Birmingham, AL. 
Mrs. Urban will be missed by her husband, Ed Urban, her daughters Lisa Urban and Cyndi Urban Mason, and her grandchildren Tyler Edward Mason and Alexis Kathleen Dowling.  She leaves behind her brothers and sister, cousins and their children, and countless friends and family members.  She is remembered for her caring spirit and kindness to all.
A celebration of life is being held on Friday, November 24th from 2-4pm at Creekside Dinery at 160 Nix Boatyard Rd, Saint Augustine, FL 32084.

PATRICIA “PAT” BORNO

Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Borno was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 6, 1940 to Joe and Kitty Mooney. She passed away after an eleven month valiant fight with lung cancer on November 19, 2017 at the age of 77. Pat cherished her youth growing up in the Big Apple and Brooklyn. She was an only child surrounded by many cousins and relatives. She loved sports and was a member of the Rainbow Girls. After high school she worked on Wall Street before joining the US Navy and served as a WAVE. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Louis “Mike” Borno, Jr. They married in 1959 and shared 58 wonderful loving years together. They moved many times throughout Mike’s Navy career and both children, a son Captain L.M. “Murph” Borno III, (USN Ret.) and daughter, Tricia Borno (Travis) LCSW were born in Puerto Rico. Pat is also survived by her beloved grandchildren whom all now reside in Orlando, FL.
Pat worked for Watson Realty for 26 years retiring in 2009. She was a proud member of St. Paul’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church and was active in many ministries including Vestry, Altar Guild, Eucharist minister, Hand Bell Choir and Verger. In 2005 Pat happily became a “Sassy Tapper” (Seniors at the Seashore Staying Young) and tapped her way around Jacksonville with a great troupe of ladies. In her final days, she had said that she was so blessed to have been loved her whole life by God, her parents, Mike, children, grandchildren and friends. She felt she had so much to be thankful for.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at St. Paul’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church of Jacksonville Beach, with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, “Tree of Life” program or Community Hospice of NE Florida.

JACK T. CHEEK, JR

Jack T. Cheek, Jr. 83, was born in Augusta, Ga, on April 6, 1934 to the late Jack T. Cheek, Sr. and Neva Price Cheek. He went to be with his Lord on November 15, 2017. He is survived by Mary, his beloved wife of over 64 years and his three children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his younger years, Jack loved riding his motorcycles and flying his acrobatic airplanes. He started his own meat and food brokerage company in 1968 and had been a member of the River Club and Lions Club International. He was also a Major Benefactor of Mayo Hospital and a Founding Member of TPC Sawgrass.
Jack loved his church, Ponte Vedra Presbyterian, where he served as a Deacon. He was a strong advocate for stray and abused animals. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to K and C Pet Rescue, P. O. Box 389, Glen St Mary, Fl., 32040.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held at Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 11 am.

JOHN JOSEPH COONEY, JR.

John Joseph Cooney, Jr., 80, of Atlantic Beach, FL passed away at his residence on November 14, 2017. He was born on February 17, 1937 in Camden, NJ. John faced many adversities in his life, but he never let them stop him. He proudly served his country as a Master Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy.
John was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrews and served in several ministries at St. Paul’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, enjoying parks and historical sites. John loved to swim and snorkel in the fresh water springs around Florida. He was an accomplished square dancer and talented at sewing the clothes that he and his wife Marilyn wore to the dances. John delighted at playing magic tricks for young children and easily brought smiles to faces both young and old.
John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Marilyn Lockwood Cooney; daughters, Colleen Cooney, Cathi Cooney and Sharon Schultz (William); son, Michael Cooney; sisters, Patricia Moody and Kathleen Taulane (William); son-in-law, Eric Regan (Rhonda); and numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepdaughter, Pamela Lockwood Regan and niece, Kimberly Ryan.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Paul’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 465 11th Ave. N., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.

JEROME M. “IKE” ISENHOUR

Jerome M. “Ike” Isenhour, 72, passed away on October 30, 2017. A 30-year resident of the beaches, Ike attended Hogan Spring Glen elementary school and graduated from Fletcher High School in 1963, where he participated in a variety of sports, including the swim and golf teams. He earned his AA Degree from Brevard College and his BA Degree from Florida International University. During his career in construction, he designed and built houses in multiple locations across the south, from Atlanta to Miami.
He loved fishing, boating and golfing, lifelong hobbies that began during his early years in Neptune Beach. In addition, like his mother, he excelled at gardening and was a master chef who published a family cookbook. His family and friends will always remember his creativity, quick wit, humor, amazing memory and dedication to his children and grandchildren.
Ike was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie (Mason) Jensen, and stepfather, William B. “Pete” Jensen. He is survived by his wife, Linda, brother Kenneth (Patti) Jensen, sister Shelly Jensen Moore, daughters Michele Nelson and Cheryl (Sean) Rogers, grandson Jake Nelson, granddaughter Baylee Rogers, as well as cousins Kay, Joy and Don Butler.
A private “Celebration of Life” is planned for Ponte Vedra, FL.

Mary Ellen (Miller) Kessler, age 91, formerly of Troy, OH, more recently of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017 at McGraw Community Hospice Center. She was born on August 21, 1926 at the family farm in Miami County, OH to the late George Ellis Miller, Sr. and Helen (Zile) Miller. Mary’s first husband, Donald P. Peters, Jr. preceded her in death. Mary Ellen married Norris Kessler in 1972 in Troy and he preceded her in death in 2007.
Mary is survived by two sons: CAPT Donald (Jeanie) Peters, USN (Retired) of Atlantic Beach, FL and David (Marcia) Peters of Medina, OH; stepdaughter: Sophie Kessler of Sierra Madre, CA; stepson: Terry Kessler of Venice, FL; three grandchildren: Elisa (Anson) DeWolf, Neptune Beach, FL; LaChelle (Dan) Rickett, Toledo, OH; Matthew (Nicole) Peters, Wooster, OH; and three step-grandchildren: Kelly Etter, Altadena, CA; Brendan Etter, Montebello, CA; Joshua Kessler, Troy, OH; 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother: George Ellis Miller, Jr.; niece: Karen Miller; and her sister: Martha M. Chipley.
When she lived in Troy, Mary was an active member of the First Baptist Church, the Stouder Hospital Auxiliary, and Gideon Auxiliary. Mary and Norris lived near both Venice and Northport, FL prior to moving to Jacksonville, FL. While in Jacksonville, Mary was active in the Cypress Village Chorus, First Christian Church of the Beaches, its Choir, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Church Women United of the Jax Beaches, Gideon Auxiliary, and as a Mayo Clinic Volunteer.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on December 9, 2017 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy, OH, with her sons officiating. A Celebration of Life Service is planned for January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church of the Beaches, (DOC), Neptune Beach, FL.

Marjorie Miller Luke, 99, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at McGraw Community Hospice. She was born on May 3, 1918 in Philadelphia PA. Mrs. Luke graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, served as a LTJG in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was married to William Guthrie Luke Jr. who passed away on June 9, 1997.
She is survived by her stepdaughters Bobbie Luke Bareham and Sandra Luke Stephenson and the widow of her stepson, William G Luke III, Barbara Luke, and her god-children Willa Luke Schweitzer and Heather McLeod Graecen and by seven step grandchildren as well as two cousins Carol Diane Terry Brownlee and Nancy J Terry.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach FL on December 4, 2017 at 11:00am followed by a reception at the Seahorse Room at Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.

JOSEPH LAWRENCE “LARRY” SASSA

Joseph Lawrence “Larry” Sassa, devoted father and husband, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017, age 86.
Larry was born November 14, 1931 in Oaklyn, NJ to Joseph and Florence Sassa, and was preceded in death by his brother Robert Sassa. Larry graduated from Collingswood High School, NJ and earned a degree in Automotive Management from General Motors Institute in Flint, MI.
Larry served in the U.S. Army as SGT, Tank Technical Instructor Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD.
After being Honorably Discharged, Larry work for Scott Smith Cadillac in Phila. PA. In 1963 Larry joined Cadillac Motor Car Division. During his distinguished 30-year career with Cadillac, Larry had management assignments in the Mid-West and finally Phila., PA.
In retirement Larry taught at PenncoTech in Blackwood, NJ. He was also a Technical Consultant for E.A.A.  Larry and Joyce moved to Jacksonville and lived at the Sweetwater Community where Larry was involved in several committees and will be missed by many friends. 
Larry is survived by his wife of 65 years Joyce Keenan Sassa of Jacksonville, three sons Lawrence and Ellen Sassa of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Joel and Kathleen Sassa of Danbury, CT and Steven Sassa and fiancée Patricia Mauro of Jacksonville, FL.
Larry was very proud of his 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons; J. Nicholas Sassa of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Lindsey and Andrew Mangus of South Bend, IN and their sons Ryan and Jaxon, Taylor and Andrew Neimes of Chicago, IL, Robert L. Sassa of Cleveland, OH, Ian Sassa of Jacksonville, FL, Stephanie Sassa of Wooster, OH and Sean Sassa of Kent, OH.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017. The service will be held in The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 7500 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville, FL.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or organization of choice.

MARGHERITA CLEMENTINI SCHARER (MARGIE)

On the morning of November 27, 2017 at the age of 98 Margherita Clementini Scharer (Margie) went to be with the Lord and her loved ones who proceeded her in death. She was born January 1, 1919 in Rieti, Italy. She married Benjamin Bremer in 1947 and moved to America. Ben proceeded her in death in 1972. She met the love of her life James Scharer and had a loving marriage for 25 years before his passing.  
Margie had two children who adored her Anna Francis and James Bremer (Muriel). James and Muriel were her caretakers for the last 4 years and did an amazing job. Margie had 7 grandchildren. Adele, Kimberly, Jamie (Sean), Amy, Garison, Andrew and Ben. She was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Brittany, Aaron, Brooke, Blake, Stella, Isaac, Ayden, Amahya and Steven.
Margie was known for her contagious laughter and smile.  She lit up any room she would walk in and will be missed by so many. She is now doing her favorite thing, planting/gardening but now it is in the Kingdom of God’s yard!  
Visitation with the family is scheduled Thursday, November 30th, from 6-8 at the Hardage-Giddens in Jacksonville Beach.  A service will be at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Friday, December 1st, at 12:30. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Community Hospice of NEFL.

FRANCES MAE STRICKLAND

Frances Mae Strickland, age 80, devoted mother and grandmother, passed away on November 21, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. She was born on August 6, 1937 in Jacksonville to Francis and Phoebe Burch.
Frances devoted her life to raising her 4 children, Ben Strickland (Mary) of Dallas, TX, Brian Strickland (Oksana), Beverly Pappas (Nick) and Brenda Patterson (Rick). She was a loving Mimi to Karen Keehn, Bradley Strickland, Connie and Lexi Patterson, Sasha Vershynin, and great-grandson Brandon Strickland.
She was a 1955 graduate of Fletcher High School, Jacksonville Beach, FL. Prior to retirement, she was the Payroll Supervisor for Baptist Medical Center (Jacksonville) for more than 25 years.
A visitation was held on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm with a celebration of Frances’ Life beginning at 2:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Michael Anthony Stouffer

MICHAEL ANTHONY STOUFFER
Maggie Valley, Michael Anthony Stouffer passed away Saturday, December 2 while exercising in Waynesville, North Carolina at the age of 78 to be delivered to Our Heavenly Father.
He is preceded in death by Dan Stoufer (Father), Vesta Stoufer (Mother) and Patrick Stouffer (brother). Michael was born in St. Petersburg, Florida on June 21, 1939. He moved to the Jacksonville/Neptune Beach Florida area at an early age and attended various Parochial Primary schools before graduating from Bishop Kenny in 1957 –serving as Class President for 3 years prior to ceding the position to Jay Sherman, his lifelong friend, his Senior year. Michael attended Florida State University from 1958 – 1962 where he began courting Andrea Naughton, also of Neptune Beach. There he pledged the Sigma Nu Fraternity and was a 4 year member of the FSU Men’s Varsity Golf Team. Golf was a lifelong passion and the root of so many lifelong friendships for Michael. Upon Graduation, Michael moved to St. Augustine, Florida where he married Andrea Naughton at St Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida to start a family and begin his career in Financial Services. Michael and Andrea moved from St. Augustine FL to St. Petersburg FL to Houston Texas as they traveled through life raising their 5 children with his gregarious nature and her loving manner from the cradle till launching them out to the world as young adults. Michael and Andrea moved back to their Jacksonville Beaches hometown in 1986 where they served as the central hub of fun for their many relatives and friends in the beaches area for 20+ years of Beach Fun, Backyard BBQ parties, Family Christmas – Thanksgiving – 4th of July shindigs before retreating to the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina in the early 2000’s. There, Michael and Andrea were very active in the Catholic Community as Michael snared more lifelong Golf friends in the Waynesville/Maggie Valley area. Michael was active as an Altar Server, Financial Committee Chair and Choir Member at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church for his time in the Smoky Mountains. Of course, Michael was also involved in any Church fundraisers that featured golf.
He is survived by Andrea Naughton Stouffer, his wife, who was close by as she always had been throughout their 55 years of marriage. Michael is also survived by 5 children, Anne Bell (54), Danny Stouffer (53), Mark Stouffer (49), Chris Stouffer (46) and Katy Stouffer (45); 13 Grandchildren, Erynn Loeder, Brandon Loeder, Hunter Loeder, Charles Stouffer, Avery Ramsey, Julia Stouffer, Kelly Stouffer, Nina Stouffer, Miles Ramsey, Andrew Stouffer, Patrick Stouffer, Ana Stouffer and Chance Bell; 1 Great Granddaughter, Abigail Loeder and Diane Zwicker, his wonderful and doting sister, of Deland, Florida. Known as Stou-Babe, Pop, PopPop, Papa Stouf and Junior Kingfish by friends & family, Michael is a true Patriarch and Prankster that is loved by anyone that ever had the good fortune to cross paths with him.
A Memorial Service will be held St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach, Florida where he and Andrea started their life together this Friday, December 8th at 12:00 noon. A Celebration of Life for Michael will be hosted by Rosemary Naughton, his Sister-in-Law, at 516 1st Street North in Neptune Beach, Florida following the Memorial Service. Michael is loved by many people from all walks of life as he loved all and his impact will be forever felt by any that had the joy of having him as part of their life.
