CLINTON LEWIS “CLINT” DASHER, JR.
Mr. Clinton Lewis “Clint” Dasher, Jr., age 91, of Jackson, GA passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was longtime resident of Jacksonville Beach. Clint was born on Thursday, September 23, 1926 in Atlanta, GA to the late Clinton Lewis Dasher, Sr. and the late Zora Ellen Willis Dasher. He was raised in Hinesville, GA in Liberty County. Clint proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. Clint loved to fish and read. He was a member of the Exchange Club of the Beaches and a longtime member of Beach United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leila Strickland Dasher, and his sister, Betty Joyce Frost.
Mr. Clint Dasher is survived by his children and their spouses, Ruthie & Walter Brown, Jackson GA, Lew & Gwen Dasher, Jacksonville Beach FL, Al & Denise Dasher, Locust Grove GA; grandchildren, Amanda Brown, David Brown, Chris & Liz Dasher, Andrew Dasher, Jason & Amy Dasher, Deanna & Scott Ballew; great-grandchildren, Olivia Ballew, Jack Dasher, Cameron Dasher; brothers and sister-in-law, Vernon Dasher, James & Judi Dasher; several nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service for Mr. Clint Dasher will be held at 1pm on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the H. Warren Smith Memorial Cemetery in Jacksonville Beach, FL with Reverend Carmen Johns. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.sherrell-westburyfh.com.

NANCY PHYLLIS (TETZLAFF) CLAYPOOLE
Nancy Phyllis (Tetzlaff) Claypoole, 77, moved on to Heaven November 6, 2017, after courageously living with a long term illness. Nancy lived a full and happy life with her husband, six children, and 16 grandchildren. She was born November 17, 1939, in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Neuman) Tetzlaff. Nancy spent her childhood years in Mt. Lebanon, PA, and was a graduate of Cornell University (1961), belonging to the Alpha Phi Sorority.
Nancy was happily married to Robert E. Claypoole for 55 years. Together, while raising their children, they lived in Cranford, NJ; Barcelona, Spain; Brasschaat, Belgium; Barrington, IL; and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; vacationing in Ocean City, NJ, almost every summer; and traveling to all seven continents and many countries. While living in Barrington, Nancy became licensed and worked as a pharmaceutical technician and volunteered in several activities for St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the Society for the Preservation of Human Dignity (PHD) in Palatine, IL, eventually becoming President. After moving to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1998 she dedicated her time to Seymour’s Bookstore at the Ponte Vedra Beach Library, Sawgrass Country Club committees, and The Talent Limited Group, and also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ponte Vedra Beach. Nancy grew bountiful gardens, was an amazing cook and a skilled seamstress; she brought excellence and creativity to all her work. She was a loving and caring wife, sister, mom, Nana, and friend to the many who had the privilege to know her.
Nancy was the very proud mother of Patricia C. Ninos, N. Catherine Claypoole (Toby Lester), Kimberly C. Farrell (John Farrell), Christine M. Claypoole, Robert E. Claypoole, Jr. (Yeli Claypoole), and Michael N. Claypoole (Lauren Claypoole), and the beloved Nana to her 16 grandchildren who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband, six children, and 16 grandchildren, and by her sister Patricia (Tetzlaff) Sylvester of Bristol, RI
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15th at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Mrs. Madeline (Maddy) Chitko passed away on November 7, 2017. Madeline was born on June 13, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Kathleen Conway. She moved to Key West, Florida where she married Benjamin Chitko in 1958. Moving to Jacksonville Beach in 1965, she was a devoted member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church community and a longtime elementary school teacher in the Duval County System.
A loving mother of her sons Joe Chitko and Peter Chitko (Elizabeth), and daughters Kathy Naugle (Cade) and Sally Doherty (Pearse); proud grandmother of Gina, Victoria and Benjamin, and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of joy and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor to BEAM (jaxbeam.org), the Native American Heritage Association, or the Humane Society.

Byron Jay Chaon passed away October 26, 2017 at age 52. Beloved husband, father and great friend is survived by his wife of 21 years, Paula, and two daughters, Morgan and Genevieve.
Originally from Mendota, IL, Byron enlisted in the United States Navy in 1986 and was designated as a Naval Rescue Swimmer and Naval Aircrewman in the following year. Mr. Chaon flew over 100 combat support missions with the Proud Warriors of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (Light) Forty Two in support of Operation Earnest Will in the Persian Gulf. In 1988 he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for action associated with combat operations flown from the deck of the USS Nicholas (FFG-47). After discharge from the Navy, Byron earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University and made his home in Jacksonville Beach. He continued to serve the Navy as a civilian instructor at the Mayport Weapons School, training other personnel in the art and science of helicopter combat tactics. In 2015 Byron made a career transition to landscaping, in pursuit of a life-long passion for gardening. Kind, caring, generous and funny, he will be missed by many. Louise Butterly Casler, 85, went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2017, while surrounded by her family.
Louise was born in Scranton, PA, to James P. and Ann T. (Collins) Butterly on July 31, 1932. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Edward G Casler and son-in-law, Thomas Lantry. She is survived by her children John Casler (Chung-Hae), Anne Lantry, Robert Devers (Melissa), and Jim Devers; stepchildren Jan Farmery (Bob) and Marc Casler (Kim Regis), as well as thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A lifelong learner, Louise graduated Summa Cum Laude from Marywood College in Scranton, PA, and received her Doctorate of Education from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Casler was the Business Education Supervisor in Prince George’s County, Md. Early in her career, she taught elementary education, but developed a love for secondary vocational education and the opportunities it offered her students.
Louise will be remembered for her genuine love of people, gracious hospitality and a superb hand at bridge! She was a quiet but strong, capable woman who lived by faith with style and grace.

Walter Irving Bates II died peacefully in his sleep on October 14, 2017 in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was born on December 23, 1932 in Meadville, Pennsylvania to the late Edward Irving Bates and Elinor Van Scoten Bates. He was preceded in death by his loving companion of 27 years, Linda Rael. Walter graduated from the Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania where he served in the Student Senate, as Head Chapel Usher, Marshall of the Field and Sergeant-At-Arms in the Washington Irving Society. He graduated from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina where he was a varsity swimmer and baseball player. While attending Duke, Walter spent his junior year abroad at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. During the Korean War, he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Walter graduated from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. He worked in marketing for international corporations including Phelps Dodge Corporation and the Singer Corporation in various corners of the world from New York City to Honolulu, to Lima, to Mexico City, to Santiago and to London. He was also a serial entrepreneur, having created and pioneered several businesses in his career, from video surveillance to cable engineering and lastly a Duke basketball sports fax service.
Walter was an avid reader and passionate traveler of the world. Burma captivated him as he took passage on a boat that went up and down the Irrawaddy River. He was an amateur golfer, tennis player and rider who played polo and rode in foxhunts. He adored playing bridge and gin rummy. A political junkie, he watched the news programs and read the editorials online. Walter was mischievous, witty and debonair; he loved to tell a great story; he was always ready for a party and was never one to say “no” to a vodka martini well chilled, one olive, straight up. He was associated with the Unitarian Church throughout his life. He took great pride in his family and stayed close to his two brothers John “Jack” Bates and Edgar “Ted” Bates. At family events, the brothers would break out in song together to celebrate the occasion.
He is survived by his first wife Virginia Avery Reich, his second wife Jacquelyn Dwelle Bates of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, his children Edward Avery Bates, Lauren Bates Galleher, Jacquelyn Bates Richardson (Maurice), Edward Irving Bates II (Anne-Laure) and his grandchildren Hunter Galleher, Phoebe Galleher, Annabel Bates, Léopold Bates and Théodore Bates.
Services will be private with the ashes to be lovingly returned to the Seine River in his beloved Paris.

Kathryn Rebecca Parsons, beloved wife, daughter, sister and friend passed away suddenly in her sleep the evening of September 18th at her home in Jacksonville at age 47.
Kathy was born in Jacksonville to Carole Donaldson Morse and Ronald Stephen Morse on February 6, 1970. She grew up in Ponte Vedra Beach and attended Fletcher High School where she graduated in 1988. After high school, Kathy attended Brevard College, and graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BA in Photography. She returned to Jacksonville and worked locally in medical billing.
In her spare time, Kathy continued to create beautiful photographs. She truly had an eye for nature photography. Throughout her life, Kathy was an introspective artist and lover of all animals. She always surrounded herself, her yard and her home with rescued animals and furry friends.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Royce Parsons; her mother Carole Morse; her sister and brother-in-law, Karen Morse Troost and Peter Troost; her aunt, uncle and cousins, Carey and Judy Donaldson, and Sarah and Anne Donaldson.

Sandra “Sandy” Lynn Mathews passed away November 12, 2017 after a brief illness. Sandy was a long-time resident of Jacksonville Beach.
Sandy was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on October 25, 1943 to a military family. She grew up in several places including Germany, Finland, Washington, DC and Orlando, Florida where she graduated high school.
Sandy was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Jim Mathews, an Airforce B-52 pilot. After Jim’s death she relocated to Jacksonville Beach to be closer to her brother, Ross Bryant.
Sandy leaves behind a daughter, Elizabeth Williamson and her husband, Mel; grandson, Luke; brother, Ross and sister-in-law, Bonnie -- all of Jacksonville Beach.
A Memorial Service will take place Monday, November 20 at 2pm at Quinn-Shalz, Jacksonville Beach.

Richard Lee “Hurricane” Johnson passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 7th 2017, with his devoted wife and son at his side. Rick was a wonderful father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He was a patriot and talented musician, who both played and taught music. Rick was born May 29th, 1951 in Jackson, Mississippi to Joe V. and Elaine Johnson.
He was predeceased by his father and is survived by his mother Elaine Johnson, his wife, Linton “Lyn” Van Dyke Johnson, his beloved son, Joseph “Jay” Johnson, Jay’s mother, Lora Dupre-Vivas, his sister Rhonda (Walter) Shealy, brother Joe Darrell (Susan) Johnson, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and assorted in-laws and outlaws.
Rick served in the military and was honored to be chosen to play in the Army band. After returning from military duty, Rick continued his passion by making beautiful music both here and abroad with many other talented musicians who remained friends, really, brothers and sisters, until the end.

James (Jimmy) Gregory Harrington, age 53, passed away on November 8, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on April 24, 1964 in Camp Lejeune, NC, the son of James Gardner Harrington, Jr. (deceased) and his mother, Carol Jean (Huber) Harrington of Neptune Beach.
Jimmy graduated from Fletcher high school in 1982 and then worked for eight years as a machinist at Stenner Pump. He changed jobs in 1989 and started his career at Orkin Lawn as a sales inspector. He had one goal: do not fail. He became successful very quickly, working his way up to branch manager. Jimmy has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and after seven years in the pest control industry, he felt the time was right to start Royal Pest Services, Inc. In February 1995, with a $5000 cash loan, a borrowed pickup truck and a whole lot of faith from his then fiancé Jennifer, Royal Pest Services was in business. Jimmy has been married to Jennifer for 21 Years – Jennifer calls it “a pest control love story.” Jimmy and Jennifer have 3 children, twin boys – Jordan and James (20) and Jenna (16). In 2007, Jennifer’s brother Rock Fliess, who at the time was a single dad, became ill and passed away. They then raised his 2 daughters, Joy (22) and Allie (20). His children were his pride and joy. Jimmy enjoyed traveling, gourmet cooking and was known to be a wine connoisseur.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Joyce (Fliess) Harrington; children, Jordan Gregory, James Richard, Jenna Marie, Joyce Marie Fliess and Allie Rose Fliess and one special puppy, Jessie who loved to snuggle with her daddy. He is also survived by his sisters, Lyn Martin-Oaks (Larry), Vicki Harrington; brothers, Mark Harrington (Paula), Steve Harrington, Mike Harrington (Shannon); 23 nephews and nieces and 10 great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brother in law, Rock Fliess; father in law, Richard “Dick” Fliess; mother in law, Joyce Fliess and his nephew, Mack Michael Harrington.

Harris Lamar (Buddy) Grizzard, Jr., passed away October 30, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital after a long illness. Buddy was born in Savannah, GA December 26, 1946, to Harris and Tina Grizzard. He is predeceased by both parents, sister-in-law Lorene Grizzard and best friend Billy Dawson.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Harris 3rd; brothers, Tom and Jim Grizzard; sister, Ava Wainwright; and many nieces and nephews.
Buddy was a decorated Viet Nam War veteran. He was a Diesel Mechanic by trade but loved horses and at a young age was a pick-up man in the Rodeo. His great love was for hunting and fishing and he had many tales to tell about both activities. He also won many sharp shooting competitions in the Army. He spent the later years of his life living in a small cabin in the woods outside Hazelhurst, GA. He seemed to be happiest there.
A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held on November 18th at 4:00 pm in the home of the Leepers and Hasteys, 318 Roscoe Blvd., North, Palm Valley. RSVP would be appreciated (703-9166). Douglas Hiser Daye (Doug), 69, passed away November 3, 2017. He was born December 12, 1947 in Springfield, OH, and moved to Atlantic Beach in 1984.
Doug attended the University of Kentucky, obtaining a degree in English Literature. He was involved in restoration carpentry in Lexington, KY, and in building and remodeling in the Jacksonville, FL, area. He was an avid fisherman and an accomplished cyclist. Doug took special delight in his sons and grandchildren.
Doug is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Katherine; sons Andrew (Sarah) and Jesse; grandchildren, Emma, Nora and Wyatt; his father, Homer O. Daye and brother, Rodger, both of Springfield, OH. Doug was predeceased by his mother, Marjorie Daye.
