Alice Newman, 91, of Atlantic Beach, Florida (recently living in Yakima, Washington), passed peacefully on May 19, 2018, with family by her side.
Alice was born on August 29, 1926, in Webster Groves, Missouri, to Harry and Julia Williams. She married John Dean Newman in 1946 in Tampa, Florida. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida soon after and in a few years, they bought a home on 6th Street in Atlantic Beach. There she cared for and raised four children; Ginger, Dean, Jahn, and Sandy, teaching them how to be kind, cheerful, and strong and always to walk on “the sunny side of the street.”
Alice leaves behind a large family who loved her very much, including a sibling, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and especially her niece, Marye Lou Parker who was such a blessing to her and her family after “Aunt Alice” was widowed.
She is preceded in death by her parents and four of her five siblings; her beloved husband, Sonny; and one of her children, Jahn Lynne.
She loved to laugh and to sing. If she wasn't talking, she was humming or singing. She dearly loved her children and dedicated her life to protecting, teaching and nurturing them.
A memorial service will be held Neptune Beach in September for family and close friends.
