MAE SANDIESON MORTON

Mae Morton, 88, formerly of Neptune Beach, FL, died in comfort at her home in Royal Oak, MI; on November 23, 2018.
Mae was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 1, 1930, to the late Alexander S and Lily A Strange.
Mae graduated from McKenzie High in Detroit,  and on September 17, 1949, married Louis John (Jack) Morton, commencing a loving and fruitful partnership that endured over 67 years until Jack's passing in 2016
Mae and Jack raised their family of five sons in the Detroit area, and while Jack worked long hours in the Machine Repair business, Mae devoted herself to making a home for her family that was filled with love and in perpetual motion. She was active in local school support organizations, an enthusiastic Hockey mom, and a willing First Mate for Skipper Jack and their crew of five, as they spent summers exploring the Great Lakes on a series of motor cruisers.
In 1984 Mae and Jack moved to the Jacksonville Beaches, to lend a hand to her sons' entree into the restaurant business. Mae's multi tasking skills were put to good use, whether as hostess. caterer, prep cook, or house mother to the fledgling staff. She displayed her creative skills for many years as the dessert chef for Crustacean's, Ragtime Tavern, and A1A Ale Works. Her most revered creation was the heavenly Mae's Key Lime Cheesecake,  close approximations of which are still served at those restaurants as well as Lily's Seafood in Royal Oak.
A local food critic once described Mae's Key Lime cheesecake as “a dessert to die for”, and she is surely serving it to the Angels now.
But above all else Mae's unflagging devotion was to her family, and she was never happier than when tending to the needs of children, whether her own, her grands, or the children of friends, neighbors, or strangers. No matter how sick, scared, hungry, or sad;  she could always make it better.
Mae is survived by her sons:  John (Paula) of Okemos, MI;  Bill and Tom (Laurie) of St Augustine, FL, and Bob (Liz) and Scott (Susan) of Royal Oak, MI.
She was the grandmother who believed that spoiling a grandchild is impossible to:  John David (Beth), Tim, Zander, Isla Cay (Werner), Maddie, Carson, Gordie, Marlon, Josh, Savannah, Emmie, Skyler, Orion, Gabby, Georgia, and Grace; and her Great Grandchildren: Isabel, Ayden, Gavin, and Jackson. She will live forever in their memories
Mae is also survived by her  sister: Jean Coleman, of Hudson, MI, and a host of nieces and nephews
There will be a celebration of Maes' life and memory on December 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Kilgore Scottish Center, 2363 Rochester Rd, Troy, MI 48083
Cheesecake will be served!
Mae's family gratefully requests donations in her memory to The Alzheimers Association www.alz.org
