Ruth Eleanor Kincart Martin passed away June 9, 2018. She was born on December 9, 1923 in Bloomfield, Iowa, the youngest of 3 children born to Ernest and Noma Kincart. She is predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Sandburg and her brother, Laverne, a World War II Veteran and Prisoner of War.
She grew up on the family farm and loved to tell the story of her milking 22 cows, maintaining an acre vegetable garden for the family meals, being taught by her sister, at age 4, to read and write, attending the one-room schoolhouse where her sister taught her and where her sister had her clean the outhouse as one of her chores there. She graduated from high school when she was 15 and finished 2 years of Junior College by age 17.
She worked in Des Moines after graduating from Jr. College and proudly tells that she worked next to “Dutch" (Ronald) Reagan, whom she met and who was a sports announcer for WHO radio there at the time. She then got hired by the FBI to work in Chicago and scour letters for possible spies. She went on to work for a General in the Army/Air Force. While working there she met her husband Douglas L. Martin, who predeceased her on October 14, 2012. She had met him at a USO dance, where he asked her for “a whirl" which she then smiles to say lasted 68 happy years.
She and Doug moved to Jacksonville, Florida after the war ended and his getting out of the service. They raised their 3 children, Diane Livingston, Connie Mabry and Randy Martin, both in Florida and then also in San Mateo, California for 5 years then moved back to Jacksonville again where they spent the next 32 years owning and managing an RV park on Atlantic Blvd. They lived in Hidden Hills Country Club on the 18th hole and eventually ended up at Pablo Towers, which they loved.
Ruth was a dedicated and devout member of her beloved First Church of Christ Scientist located in Jacksonville Beach where she was a Reader and worker in her church.
She loved to read, walk (if possible, on the beach), listen to music and especially loved to dance with her husband and later at Pablo Towers, anytime it was possible.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and a Universal mother to many of her children's friends and family.
Ruth always had a smile and a compliment for anyone who crossed her path. She was a true angel in human disguise who spread Love and Light to all lucky enough to know her or be in her presence.
She is survived by her 3 children, her only grandchild, Jason Mabry(Alyssa) and her 2 great-grandchildren, Cameron and Rylan, all who loved and adored her.
She passed gently and peacefully, and we can only believe that she is now dancing with her dear husband and all of her loved ones in the Divine Light.

William (Bill) Ralph Searcy, a long-time resident of Atlantic Beach, passed away on June 6, 2018. He was born on May 2, 1948 to the late William Sr. and Alice Searcy in Atlanta, Georgia.
People may have first noticed Bill for his good looks and athleticism, but to those who knew him well he was an intelligent, kind and quiet soul who could charm the birds from the sky. Bill had a fabulous sense of humor and would go to any lengths to get a laugh.
Managing Type I Diabetes for over 50 years was no small feat and made Bill grateful and resilient. Physical activity was his medicine, from track and field in school, surfing the waves back in the day, crafting wood furniture or stone walls for the dream house he and his wife Sharon were building, exploring on bikes, or just jogging in place, he stayed happily active.
Bill cherished being out in the natural world and had an uncanny connection to wildlife from childhood on. As he wrote in a school essay as a teenager, “I prefer to be educated in the forest and gain my experience from the raw elements and living creatures of the earth . . . My idea of success is to contribute to the well-being of all forms of life and beauty, not just man, and at the same time live in the manner in which I choose . . . I believe a successful man is a happy man - a man who is content and satisfied with the kind of life he leads.”
Bill's earliest jobs included working as a veterinarian assistant and later for Greenpeace. He remained a lifelong environmentalist, idealist and dreamer. He retired from the City of Atlantic Beach after 25 years.
Most of all Bill loved his family fiercely and never missed an opportunity to express the pride and joy he felt for them.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; daughters Jennifer Hartlep (James) of West VA., Jessica Johnson (Daniel) of Palm Coast, Fl. stepdaughter and stepson April Bembry and Chase Bembry of Jacksonville; grandchildren Payne & Mason Johnson, Julianna Bembry and Keithen Segars; siblings Kim (John) Grau of CA, Ben Searcy of Tenn., and Janet (Joe) Pasquale of Ga; aunts June Dunwoody and Virginia Studer, as well as cousins, nieces, nephew, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Lea Evans, nephew Marc Evans, mother Alice and father William Sr.
A celebration of his life was held on June 9, 2018 at the family‘s unfinished log home.

Reverend Doctor John Henry “Jack” Swann of Atlantic Beach, died suddenly June 9, 2018 in Jackson Hole, WY surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born in 1934 in Stamford, CT, the son of Scottish immigrants William and Margaret Swann. His sisters Margaret, Eva and Alice preceded him in death.
Jack was a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in political science and history. This is where he met his life's companion, Judy Eanes. He was president of his Sigma Chi chapter, a four year member of ROTC (becoming captain of the unit) and worked in construction and at a diner to finance his education. Following college, Jack served two years in Germany with the U.S. Army.  Upon his return, he and Judy were married in Stamford, CT. He went on to get a master's degree at Colgate Rochester Divinity School (NY), a master's degree in pastoral counseling at Boston University and his doctorate at Drew University (NJ).  He continued his love of learning throughout his life.
During his years in the ministry, he served several Presbyterian churches including Hartford St. Presbyterian Church, Natick, MA; South Presbyterian Church, Dobbs Ferry, NY; and, for the last twenty years of his career as pastor of Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, FL. In 2000, he retired to Jackson Hole.
Jack was always active in the community in which he lived.  While in Wyoming, he volunteered with Therapeutic Riding and Grand Teton National Park, served as Chairman of the Hospital Board and was a member of the Rotary Club. Upon returning to Florida in 2015, he volunteered at Mayo Clinic and became active again at Palms Presbyterian, reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones.  He loved both the mountains and the ocean and was happy to be walking the beach once again. An active sports fan, he loved the Gators, Yankees, NY Giants and U-Conn basketball.
Jack consistently gave of himself to others and was a lifelong supporter of equal and civil rights.  In 1963 he was part of the Freedom March on Washington and in 1964 was arrested in Mississippi registering voters. Jack always strived to live as his faith taught him and to feel the presence of God within himself and others. He was a devoted and loving father and never took his family for granted.
In addition to Jack's wife Judy, he is survived by his children Cathy Swann Wikoff (Robert) Jackson, WY; Steve Swann (Kim) Atlantic Beach; Bruce Swann (Ann) Bozeman, MT; and beloved grandkids Jack David Swann, Rayne Wikoff, Alex Swann and Sadie Rose Swann.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Habitat for Humanity, Palms Presbyterian Church and Friends of Guana Reserve.  A celebration of his life is scheduled on July 21 at 11 am at Palms Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
