Florence Russell May, 80, passed away on December 4, 2018. Born in Ridgway, PA, she graduated from Edinboro University and received an MS from Kutztown University. She taught art in Pennsylvania in the Central Dauphin School District for 30 years where she served as teacher's union president. Upon retiring to Florida, she immediately began working on her “Bucket List”, visiting France, Italy, Russia, Brazil, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, and many other countries over the next 20 years.
Florence was a phenomenal cook, a passionate learner, and a lover of art in all its forms. She created countless paintings, weavings, pottery pieces, drawings, and textile pieces. She was fascinated with history, botany, political science, and poetry. She was the Renaissance ideal of a true humanist-a lifelong student of the world and all its wonders.
Well-known for the merry, positive energy she gave freely to everyone she met, she saw everyone in the world as a potential friend; she gave light and love to everyone who knew her until the day she died.  She is sorely missed.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Richard May.
She is survived by her three children, Elaine, Richard and Margaret, son-in-law Richard Hocutt and grandchildren Avery, Caroline and Margaret Hocutt and Jake and Ally Hamil.
A celebration of her life was held on Sunday, December 16 at 2PM at the Ocean 14 Club Room in Jax Beach.
