Andrew (Andy) Lyle died peacefully at home on April 24, 2018 at the age of 98. Andy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in November 1919 to Harvey John Rose and Bessie Harper Lyle, and grew up in Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. As a young man, Andy joined the U.S. Army, and served during WWII in the European Theater with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division.
Andy married Audrey Ada Kennedy in 1950 and soon had to sell his beloved two-seated MG TF when his family expanded to two kids, a pregnant wife, and a high-energy boxer. He spent his career traversing the Midwest as a salesman, initially for Lyle Brothers, an industrial hardware supplier, and later with multiple divisions of the Eastern Company, including Ebehard Manufacturing and Illinois Lock Company. Andy was proud to be a fifty-year member of the Freemasons, North Hills Lodge 716 north of Pittsburgh.
Andy loved adventure, conversations, fancy clothes, dancing, new cars, and flirting with young waitresses. In his later years, he could be found presiding over breakfast with his pals at the Beach Diner or his home at HarborChase in Jacksonville.
Andy was predeceased by his parents, his wife Audrey, and his siblings Harvey John Rose, Jr. and Bettyjane Curry Meals. He is survived by his children, JoAnn (Tom) Francis of Jacksonville, Andrew Lyle (Mary Kennedy) of Seattle, and Robert Kennedy Lyle (Sunita Mutha) of San Francisco; two grandchildren, one great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and their children, and many, many friends.
Friends and family members may attend the graveside service on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 10:30 to 11:00 AM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32218.
