Brian O’Malley, of Atlantic Beach, passed away on June 23, 2017 in Jacksonville. He was born in western New York July 26, 1930, to Peter Jennings O’Malley and Florence (Maroney) O’Malley. Although he spent some childhood years in towns like Salamanca and Olean, Brian proudly identified with South Buffalo. He left New York as a draftee and trained as a radio operator at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he mastered Morse Code. The Korean War closed as Brian completed training.  Brian worked for the Social Security Administration, where he met his wife-to-be, Maureen Dwyer O’Malley. Brian taught at Bishop Kenny in the 1960s. At the Beaches as in Buffalo, Brian was an avid bowler. Maureen O’Malley opened a real estate office in 1967. Over the years, Brian periodically helped at the office as an agent. Brian was for many years a member of Selva Marina Country Club. Brian volunteered with various charity efforts and was an early president of Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM).
Brian is remembered for his kindness, his affable sense of humor and his love of puns and crossword puzzles.
Brian is predeceased by his parents and by friend and ex-wife Maureen O'Malley. Brian is survived by his three sons, Brian, Kevin (Michele) and John (Nate Griffin); five grandchildren and many friends and relations who remember him fondly.
Service will be Friday, July 7, 10AM at St. Johns Catholic Church, 2400 Mayport Rd., Atlantic Beach.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donating to St. Johns Emergency Assistance, 2400 Mayport Rd, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233, where Brian volunteered many a Saturday.
