JOHN DOUGLAS HOLLINGSWORTH, JR.

John Douglas Hollingsworth, Jr., 64, a native of Jacksonville Beach, boat racing's "The Man”, “Red” and “Johnny", departed this life peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2019.
John was born on March 5, 1955 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late John D. Hollingsworth, Sr. and Hope J. Colee. John graduated from Fletcher High School and was Captain of the Neptune Beach lifeguards. He attended the University of Florida and became a Master Mechanic for Mercury Motors. Owner of Hollingsworth Marine and Racing Inc., over the years John broke many boat racing records. John loved boating, fishing and tinkering with motors. His favorite time was spent with his children and especially watching his granddaughters play softball, rarely missing a game.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife Sandy Beach Hollingsworth, siblings, Andy Hollingsworth (Mary Gray), Beth McCormick, Sharon O'Conor (Joe), Alex Colee (Lorriane), and Charlotte Shimko (Ben). Three children Christina Hollingsworth Hines (Tyrelle), "J.D." John Hollingsworth, III (fiancée Sarah), Royce Hollingsworth (Rebekah). Granddaughters Dallas and Dacie Watterson. He was preceded in death by wife Debra Hollingsworth and brother-in-law, Neal McCormick.
John was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and wild spirit. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 2:00pm, Beach Church, 325 7th Avenue North, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250.
In Lieu of flowers, a college fund has been set up at Navy Federal Credit Union. Please give Dallas or Dacie Watterson name to any employee.
